Art Affair 2007 Returns to Stony Point Fashion Park

Released: 08/22/07

SOME OF THE MID ATLANTIC'S BEST ARTISTS LIVE IN VIRGINIA. COME MEET THEM.

The Bon Air Artist Association will hold its 15th annual outdoor fine arts festival on Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21 at Stony Point Fashion Park. The festival will be located in the parking area across from Saks. Art Affair 2007 is free to the public and open Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday noon to 5 pm. A portion of the show proceeds will benefit Child Savers and the BAAA art scholarship.

The art show will feature over 100 artists from Central Virginia and surrounding states. A wide variety of fine artwork is being exhibited for sale. Paintings in oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastels will be exhibited, as well of works of sculpture, drawing, photography and some carefully selected fine craft.

An exciting feature of the show is the display of artwork from talented local high school students. Students from Richmond City and Chesterfield will compete for awards for outstanding work.

This year's judge is Betty Anglin, Director of Fine Art and Art History at Christopher Newport University. She will choose 20 artists for awards in specific media and will select two outstanding artists for the top awards, Best in Show and the Bon Air Artist Award. Over $4,000 in prize money will be awarded.

The focus of this year's show centers on encouraging patrons to come out and meet the artists. First time visitors to the show may not realize that there are a number of first-rate artists who live and work in Richmond and are members of the Bon Air Artists Association. Watercolorist, Beverly Perdue, winner of top awards in the Southern Watercolor Society as well as the Virginia Watercolor Society, will be exhibiting. Also award winners, Susan Stuller and Eleanor Cox who both teach watercolor classes in the area and have each taken groups of artists to Europe to paint in France and Italy. Susan, Beverly and Eleanor have had work featured in various art publications such as American Artist and the Artist Magazine. Beverly and Susan have had their work published in books that feature the best watercolorists in the country. These are just a few of the outstanding artists who come out of BAAA. Vonnie Whitworth, who took the top prize in 2006, is a Virginia artist form Virginia Beach. Her stunning large scale still life paintings and sensitive portraits attract attention at exhibitions throughout the states. James Underwood, from Bedford, Va., will exhibit his wonderful pastel landscapes again this year; his work is always a pleasure to see. There are many other painters, photographers, jewelers, ceramicists and sculptors to meet and converse with. Of the 100 artists on site, there is bound to be a particular artist who speaks to any artistic taste.

Art Affair is one of Richmond's most successful outdoor art shows and has a long tradition of helping the community, especially children. Over the 15 years it has donated more than $75,000 to area chairities.

Bon Air Artist Association is a non-profit organization of Richmond metropolitan area artists representing all the fine arts. The 140 member organization will celebrate its 33rd anniversary this year.
